More on Sibahle Malinga

Sibahle Malinga – The Cradle Presenter Friday and Saturday (00:00 – 04:00)

Self-motivated, free-spirited and inquisitive. These are three the words that Sibahle proudly uses to describe herself. “I have an inquiring mind and always want to take cognizance of what’s happening and why things happen the way they do”. Born and raised in the dusty streets of Ezakheni township in KZN, Sibahle grew up listening to Ukhozi fm. My favourite radio presenters were “Bodloza”, “Kansas City” and Zanele Mbokazi, I was always glued to the radio.”

A decade later, it was not much of a surprise when Sibahle was one of the 15 journalism students who were selected as the first presenters of Tshwane fm, the campus radio station at Tshwane University of Technology. “Our Journalism group had applied for a broadcasting license from ICASA several times we we were ecstatic when we were finally given one”. She hosted the popular campus drive-time show called Mojo Zone for two years. This was when Sibahle was first bitten by the radio bug. Shortly after graduating Sibahle had a brief stint at the Johannesburg community radio station - Radio Today.

In 2007 she worked at Khaya fm as an intern in the newsroom. “Being a roving radio reporter made me realize the significance of radio as a medium of communication, interaction and the role it plays in delivering relevant information to the public” says this dynamic soul. In 2007 she moved to SAfm where she started as an intern producer, working on various programmes. One day when the then presenter of In Tune Rhulane Baloyi couldn’t make it for work , Sibahle decided to take a risk and sit behind the microphone. Much to  everybody’s surprise, nothing fell apart and the show went well. She later took over as the presenter of In Tune and two years later she became the voice behind the weekend midnight programme- The Craddle.

Sibahle is a news junkie , her favourite pastime includes reading newspapers, magazines , books and almost anything she can lay her hands on . Shes also a freelance writer for various magazines and online publications. Her worst fear is failure. Her long term goals include having a regular radio programme , and she hope to one day have her own television show. “ I dream of being a relevant voice both on radio and TV, tackling pertinent issues affecting South Africans.
