More on Koketso Sachane

“I was born and raised in Atteridgeville, Pretoria and grew up in Cape Town”. That is how Koketso Sachane summarizes his story.

A seasoned journalist and broadcaster with a passion for dialogue as a tool for change, Koketso’s journey in broadcasting started on Cape Town community station Bush Radio’s Hip-Hop. It is there where he says he learnt the important lesson of radio as a service to its community and audience. Koketso credits Hip-Hop as well as the station’s now late MD Zain Ebrahim, for his understanding of the responsibility that comes with being behind the microphone.

Once his broadcasting foundation was set, 2000 saw Sachane move to commercial station P4 Radio (later renamed Heart 104.9) where he started first as a news reporter and anchor. He later presented a number of shows on various time slots, the last of which was the weekday lunchtime show.

In 2008 Koketso walked away from broadcasting and spent two years in government communications first as a spokesperson for Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public works and later as media liaison for the National Minister of Public Works.

His passion for broadcasting brought him back to radio where in 2011 he served as weekend news editor for Kaya FM and as stand in for a number of the station’s talk shows. During this Koketso also did a short stint as communications manager at SA Tourism.

Sachane returned to Cape Town in 2014 and went on to host shows on Primedia Broadcasting’s 702 and Cape Talk till 2018. Following a year as television news anchor on Open News (later renamed eTV News), Koketso walked away from broadcasting to focus on his writing and pursue his business ventures.

At his core, Sachane understands and respects the role broadcasting plays in bringing South Africans together in dialogue to debate, celebrate and at times fight over matters of national importance.

“First and foremost I am a father to my children, son to my parents and brother to my siblings. Everything else follows after that”.
