There was an increase in government participation with investors and business people at the 2018 mining Indaba conference. According to the organisers, the conference saw an increase in investors across the globe. They say this is a clear indication that investors are willing to come back and do business on the African continent.
Meanwhile mining companies are closer to finalising an agreement to compensate victims of silicosis and other lung diseases caused through mining. Alan Fine is the spokesperson for the Occupational Lung Diseases working group, which was established to negotiate a compensate victims of silicosis and other lung diseases caused through mining. He spoke to our presenter Stephen Kirker.
