Is there a crisis at labout union SATAWU?
SATAWU is allegedly broke and its General Secretary Zenzo Mahlangu has been deported. The union's Deputy General Secretary Zacharia Mosothoane disputes the claims
The South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union, SATAWU, is allegedly facing financial problems.
Last month, the country's biggest transport union could not attend the 6th COSATU Central Committee meeting in Tshwane due to alleged financial constraints. Adding to its woes, its general-secretary Zenzo Mahlangu was deported last month after he was found to have a fraudulent South Africa identity document.
Whistle blowers claim in media reports that the union is now being led by foreign nationals. Members aren't allowed to ask about the millions missing from the union's coffers and they are questioning the status of yet another SATAWU leader.
Speaking to Sakina Kamwendo on the Forum@8 the union's Zacharia MosothoaneZacharia Mosothoanesaid Mahlangu who home affairs alleges acquired the South Africa Identity Document fraudulently is on leave and will be returning to work soon.
