Zuma survives calls for him to step down

President Jacob Zuma has reportedly survived calls for him to step down at an ANC NEC this weekend.

President Jacob Zuma is reported to have survived a motion of no-confidence in him at an ANC National Executive Committee meeting in Irene outside Pretoria. This is the second time in six months that President Zuma has survived a motion of no confidence in him at an NEC meeting.

 Zuma is facing mounting pressure within the ANC as well as its from opposition parties and civil society to step down. 

The President is reported to have used his closing address to threaten ANC leaders who publicly criticised him. Zuma also slammed the the Gauteng ANC for the loss of  voter support during last year's local government elections.  The embattled President is also fighting attempts by opposition parties to mobilise support from ANC Parliamentarians to table a motion of no confidence in his leadership
