A UCT student alleges she was raped by a professor, and claims the university has been silencing her.

How should universities respond to sexual violence that happens on their campuses. A UCT student alleges she was raped by a professor, and claims the university has been silencing her. In response to the allegations, UCT Vice Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi said the student has refused help from the university and there should say what her real agenda is. A statement that caused uproar on social media. The university says the alleged perpetrator is a joint staff member in a partnership with the Western Cape Government Health and an investigation is underway. Many have found Professor Phakeng’s response to be insensitive and not empathetic to the student. On #SAfmBTH with Aldrin Sampear spoke to Mara Glennie, CEO and Founder of Tears Foundation. The Foundation specializes in assisting and supporting sexual abuse and rape survivors.
