Listeriosis outbreak claims thirty six lives

557 cases have been reported between January and November this year

Health Minister, Doctor Aaron Motsoaledi has announced that an outbreak of food borne bacteria, Listeriosis has claimed thirty six lives. Listeriosis is caused by a bacteria, which is widely distributed in nature and can be found in the soil, water and vegetation. Although anyone can get Listeriosis, those at high risk of developing this severe disease include newborns, the elderly, pregnant women and persons with weak immunity. 

557 cases have been reported between January and November this year. Health Minister Doctor Aaron Motsoaledi has urged the public to keep clean and lookout for symptoms while authorities are still investigating the source.
