Commuters stranded as taxi drivers strike
The organisation is accusing the transport ministry of failure to address their long-standing concerns
Taxi commuters have been advised to seek alternative transport on Wednesday morning due to a taxi strike. Taxi operators affiliated to the National Taxi Alliance will gather in Marabastad in Pretoria before marching to the Transport Ministry and the Union Buildings. The organisation is accusing the transport ministry of failure to address their long-standing concerns.
They include the controversial Taxi Re-capitalisation programme, delays in the issuing of operating permits and the exclusion of the taxi industry from receiving public passenger transport subsidies. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporters, Phumzile Mlangeni and Sashin Naidoo.
