ANC starlwarts to meet with party top 6

Date: Jan 11, 2017

A group of ANC veterans are pushing for a review of the party's electoral system and chanhes to its constitution. The call comes ahead of the party's elective conference in December

The ANC stalwarts say they will now hold further discussions with the party's top 6 to press for an early consultative conference.

Last year, it was resolved that it would take place two days before the party holds its policy conference in June, but the veterans say this will be too late.

The party's veterans say the ruling party should focus on the quality of their leadership and serving the people. The veterans hosted a media conference in Johannesburg today, following President Jacob Zuma's January 8 statement at a Soweto rally at the weekend.

The ANC yesterday labelled as premature and divisive the Women's League's endorsement of Nkosazana Dlamini- Zuma as the party's presidential candidate. Alliance partner COSATU earlier endorsed Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to take over the reins.
