The community of Jan Kempdorp in the Northern Cape is still in shock following the brutal killing of a 6-year-old boy. 

Kutlwano Garesape was stabbed with a broken bottle as he was trying to protect his mother from being raped. His mother Segomotso was taking him and his 8-year-old brother to school on Friday at the time of the incident. 

A 32-year-old man has appeared briefly in the Jan Kempdorp Magistrate's court in the Northern Cape, for allegedly murdering a 6-year-old boy. The man allegedly tried to rape the boy's mother. The boy intervened and the man stabbed Kutlwano to death with a broken bottle. Community members protested outside court, asking for no bail. The case has been postponed to August the 22 for formal bail application. The man remains behind bars
