Three senior government officials have appeared at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on charges of corruption. Mpumalanga Head of Human Settlement in Mpumalanga Department, Kebone Masenge, Hawk Unit Commander of Serious Corruption Investigation, Lieutenant-Colonel Ayanda Plaatje and Mpumalanga Province acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Matric Luphondo, reportedly colluded to bribe a prosecutor to withdraw charges that Masenga is facing, in terms of the contravention of Immigration Act and fraud. Masenge was arrested for allegedly being in the country illegally and being in possession of three fraudulently-obtained identity documents.
