"No financial capacity for totally free higher education"

Former Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande says government still has to respond to the Fees Commission Report released by President Jacob Zuma

Students at various Universities have expressed disappointment with the recommendations of the Heher Commission Report into the Feasibility of Fee-Free Higher Education and Training in South Africa. Released yesterday, the report finds that the state does not have sufficient financial capacity to provide totally free higher education and training to all who are unable to finance their own education. 

This falls short of university students demands for free education for all. On the Forum@8 Sakina Kamwendo looks at the recommendations by the commission with PHD Scholar at the Wits School of Education, Leigh-Ann Naidoo and CEO of Universities South Africa, Professor Ahmed Bawa.
