Children in Lavender Hill, Cape Town are too scared to go to school because of gang wars in the area

As South Africans mark Child Protection Week, learners from four different schools in Lavender Hill in Cape Town are appealing for help, saying they are afraid to go to school due to on-going gang violence in the area.

The principal of one of the schools - Hillwood Primary School - says he is concerned about his students' safety as gangs run amok in the area.

Although Police have been deployed to the area, some learners are still concerned for their safety. On Monday, four people were reportedly gunned down in the area.
