Poverty in South Africa is on the rise

More than fifty percent of the country's citizens are living below the poverty line

Poverty in South Africa is on the rise. This is according to a report released by Statistics South Africa this morning. It says more than fifty percent of the country's citizens are living below the poverty line. Children are worse affected it shows. 


However, the survey also reveals that despite this, there is a general improvement from what the situation was like ten years ago where almost seventy percent of the population was poor. Stephen Kirker spoke to Statistician-General Dr. Pali Lehohla who says children are worst affected
