Born eNanda, Nokutela Dube was the wife of ANC founder John Langalibalele Dube. She and her husband were educated in the United States of America.
The Dubes return to South Africa to start the first black school in 1890.
Speaking to Sakina Kamwendo, Prof Cherif Keita of the Carleton College in Minnesota, United States says despite a flourishing public life, Nokutela Dube faced a number of personal challenges. ' Nokutela Dube was unable to have children and after 20 years of marriage John had an affair', says Professor Keita.
