The History Workshop and the Historical Papers Research Archive at Wits University, together with Section 27 and the Public Affairs Research Institute (Pari) will host a colloquium on apartheid archives this week. The one-day symposium will be conducted under the theme "Is it time to free the Apartheid era archives?". According to the organisers, the aim is to create public awareness about the urgent need for an open and transparent regulation of the records of the Apartheid era and to promote initiatives around sound public record keeping.
On the Forum@8, Sakina Kamwendo discusses the importance and calls to declassify apartheid era archives with Author and Director of Open Secrets, Hennie van Vuuren and Director for Archives and Dialogues at the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Verne Harris.
