ABASA (The Association of Black Accountants in Southern Africa) was established in 1985 to promote interests of black men and women engaged in the accounting profession. Amongst some of their programmes, the Association runs a countrywide mentorship programme aimed at introducing black kids in townships to the accounting profession. The shortage of skills and low number of black accountants remain a challenge in South Africa and ABASA is committed to ensuring that there is transformation and equity in the profession…here’s how:

Audiology in South Africa is an established profession facing the challenge of serving a diverse population in predominantly developing contexts. The profession has developed over the last half century from an adjunct to speech-language pathology into a profession in its own right. Several tertiary institutions offer undergraduate training in audiology with optional postgraduate qualifications. Institutions are continually adapting to a profession characterised by rapid change--evidenced even in the very composition of the profession itself…we talk about audiology as a profession and get educated on how best to take care of our hearing:

As we come to the end of Woman’s Month, today we look at conditions of women offenders. Just last year, Correctional Services statistics indicated that, there are 2489 sentenced women, and 1070 un-sentenced women. Women constitute a small fraction of offender populations with South Africa, only having 3359 female offenders among its 165 000 population…we look at issues like rehabilitation for female offenders and challenges encountered when reintegrating offenders back to society; the impact of imprisonment on women and children; the kinds/types of crimes females are likely to commit and whether these stats are on the increase or not:
